| Villetta Altomare, waiting for Islands Ferries
boarding... |

Spend a relaxing nigth at Villetta Altomare
before to board the ship, in Livorno, to Tuscan
Archipelago,
Sardinia or Corsica.
Capraia Island is the third largest
Island of the Tuscan Archipelago. It is situated North-West
of Elba Island, just 16 miles from Corsica and 36 miles from
Livorno. It is named the "wild" island as a result
of a volcanic eruption that happened nine million years ago.
Deep cliffs, rocks of beautiful colours and striking chromatic
contrasts are visible. The Island is the "shrine of crustaceans"
the heart of the National Park of the
Tuscan Archipelago deep in the largest protected sea
area of Europe. The territory is wild, totally covered by
Mediterranean bush, and has just one small town centre.
Situated really in front of Livorno, it is the smallest and
northern island of the whole attainable Tuscan archipelago
with a hour and half of ferry. The Gorgona
preserve to the best the characteristics native and continuous
to show today still his face seli vaggio and virgin. The only
installations that testify the island history are the Old
Tower and the Tower New.

The Old Tower is castled on the edge of a rock, to precipice
on the sea in place it Costs some Cantons and it came costrtlita
from the pisanis around the XII century. The Tower New goes
up again to the epoch instead medicea, and it was built for
wish of the Granduca in Tuscany in 1600: for a long period
it has entertained a jail, then; it has been abandoned and
it pours under conditions of serious I degrade. The etruschis,
the Romans and the first Christian elemitis almost certainly
have inhabited this earth, but of their passage some trace
has not remained. The true treasure of the Gorgona is its
uncontaminated nature, free as
it is to expand thanks to the absence of the man to threaten
The Mediterranean stain is to a little luxuriant dir, but
ancnes are present you plant with trees to tall stem as the
pines and the leccis. The backdrops of the Gorgona, where
the habitat has not suffered some type of alteration, they
are absolutely transparent and they entertain a fauna and
a fiber rich and incredibly variegated. The local population
survives in few old fishermen that have not wanted to leave
their earth and they live in a minuscule country castled above
the spiaggetta of the Port.

The crystal clear sea, the indented
coastline composed of a succession of inlets, the fine
sand and the breathtaking scenery have meant that Corsica
has always been considered the "island of beauty".
This is a place where nature represents a true paradise, made
up of mountainous and marine panoramas, of its flora and fauna,
unique in their kind and of its friendly and welcoming inhabitants.
Corsica's most important characteristic is certainly the correct
balance it has managed to maintain between tourism and the
conservation of its environment.
